moon time

MOON TIME began in 2002 with a series of mandalas that established my ritual of giving form to the images of the unconscious and reflecting on its meaning. This reflection, the coming back to the center and to myself, merged the art and spirituality of my life to form Moon Time, the act of creating with the longing and intent to transcend.

In 2003 the vessel appeared, at first on paper and then moving into clay—revealing the feminine principle, and the need to receive its wisdom and contain its energy in the form of the vessel. The ritual of containing the feminine voice in clay vessels animated physical matter in reenactment of a creative source and connection with Nature. The more source information I could channel into the vessel, unfiltered and shaped by me, the closer I felt to nature and could then experience myself co -creating in a relational way with clay, the skin of the earth and her most abundant element.

The power and principle of the feminine is the relatedness to one self and to the inner laws inherent in the Nature of things. And although we easily separate our thoughts from our bodies, ourselves from Earth, feel disconnected with the survival of humanity threatened—the Moon, through its influence on Water, still offers creation of earthen forms in clay. Clay remembers its forma tion from Water, Earth, and Light. This is MOON TIME.

What does it look like if we experience Nature as having imagination and consciousness, and ourselves as co-creators? The Moon, the artist, and Earth’s clay: all consciousness—each with an imagination and a dream of its own. I offer drawings and imagination to the Moon in the form of prayers, burn the prayers, wedge the prayers into the clay, and offer the clay to the Moon’s bestowing powers to fertilize the seeds of inner life, for both maker and viewer alike. May my effort inspire your effort, and all our efforts bear fruit, in time.
